July 23.

I moved around a lot today. I didn't go far, but I kept moving. In the short distance of my travels around the city, I found more things to draw than I could finish, and this is a series of unfinished drawings from today.

The top drawing is mint. At first glance I thought it was lavendar, but the leaves aren't lavendar leaves. The stem is square, too, which I've been told is a giveaway that the plant is in the mint family. I'm not sure what kind of mint it is, but the smell is lovely.

I don't know the name of the other flowering plant, the drawing in the middle.

The tree I started to draw has a sign posted on it with its name, but I forgot to look at it before leaving. I'll check later and maybe finish the drawing of it. Trees are great fun to draw.

I like the delicacy of the top sketch. These certainly have the look of an old botanical-type of book. Actually I think they're a lot like your writing style--detailed and not overdone.

I love old botanical drawings. I always have.

While sketching in the community garden this week, one person said to me, "You know, you can take classes to learn how to do that."

Another person said, "It would help if you knew basic botany."

I love New Yorkers and living life in public.

I forgot all about my idea to have a guestbook page in my sketchpad for people who stop to look at what I'm drawing. Drat. These two people would've been fun to include.

Next time. There will always be a next time.

Thanks for visiting here, btw.
